The night sky was sparkling with bright city lights and the crescent moon shone like a silvery spotlight. I looked up at the blanket of stars that stretched to infinity and beyond.
The occasional sound of faraway cars broke the silence of the night.
The high rooftop was the best place to see the constellations, the poll ution of the city lights didn’t dim it as much.
A notification on my phone lights up my display and shows the time.
It’s almost two 2 a.m, and you know what they say, nothing good happens after 2 a.m…
It always happens like clockwork, yet it is never the same.
It is unpredictable, like the wind.
As I lay on the rooftop waiting, I listen to the sound of the city around me.
Waiting for something, anything to happen.
A few minutes passed and the city remained silent, as silent as a big city could be.
Nothing was out of the ordinary.
My curiosity got the best of me as I made my way down the fire escape, 9 stories down and my feet hit the ground.
The streets are quiet, not a soul to be found as I walk out of the alley and onto the main road.
Why hasn’t anything happened yet? I wondered to myself.
“Helloo!?” I yelled into the emptiness.
The sound of something echoes back, strange but it was definitely there, it wasn’t my mind playing tricks on me…
It was the sound of a distant voice calling back at me, yet I could not make out what it was saying exactly. As if it was distorted.
Out of curiosity, I move towards the direction the sound came from, at the same time, I grab my phone.
Out of shock I almost dropped it.
This can’t be? Can it?
The display showed one minute before two a.m.
Before I can register what’s happening the clock turns 2 again but this time for real.
The sound of a screeching car pulls me out of my thoughts as it crashes into another.
Only then I realize what I missed before, as they both erupt into flames.
Nothing truly goods happens after two a.m
Well I guess I’d better stick around a bit later to make sure I don’t miss views like this
Very nice article. I definitely love this site. Thanks!
