The last few months I have been having some issues with really committing to writing and finishing my book.
Some of you know that I also have a day job that requires a lot of hours behind a computer and not always do I have the motivation to do that when I get home. I try to write on the side/whenever I have the time or feel any spark of inspiration.
As soon as I sit down behind my computer, I am easily distracted and I procrastinate… A lot. Lose myself on Instagram, Twitter of Pinterest.
Yet I found a few tricks that have helped me up my game and wanted to share them with you.
So here it is:
- 🖋When I have time to write, I put my phone on silence and out of reach. (Including the notifications I get on my computer) Because who needs distractions?
- 🖋When I need a break I’ll try to do something else then reach for my phone or go to social media on my computer. Instead I’ll make myself a cup of thee/coffee, any other drink or take a walk with my dog.
- 🖋Read your edits out loud to see if it comes across naturally and if it makes sense.
- 🖋When I don’t have time to write, I at least try to think about my characters, plot and the world they live in. Take notes on my phone or notebook when I think of something that I can use.
- 🖋 And whenever I’m stuck, I try to read the previous chapter because I learned that most of the time the problem lies there(or at least with me it is)
- 🖋Whatever you do, DON’T open social media, you will get lost for hours( I know from experience :D)
Does this sound familiar and does it help you in any way? Let me know on instagram and if there is anything you’re struggling with, or wish to see on my website or instagram page. Just leave a comment and I will look into it.
Hope this helps!
